Cannabis microbial testing limits vary significantly across the 50 states, DC, Puerto Rico, and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians tribal medical program. As of June 2026, approximately 38 states and DC have active cannabis programs with microbial testing requirements. Eight states have no legal cannabis program. Several others have medical programs but have not yet adopted specific microbial testing regulations. The interactive reference below covers every jurisdiction, showing Salmonella, STEC, E. coli, Aspergillus, Total Yeast and Mold (TYM), Total Aerobic Count (TAC), coliforms, bile-tolerant gram-negative bacteria (BTGN), and other analytes by product category where defined. Limits shown reflect publicly available regulatory data as of June 2026. Always verify current requirements with the state regulatory authority and your licensed testing laboratory before making compliance decisions.
